Education changes lives.

February 3rd marks the start of a brand new school year for us at FunLimon. But before the school year starts, we'd like to reflect on last year's success.

In 2019, 163 students completed classes and graduated from their respective fields. Here's a numerical break-down:

1. FunLimon Youth Program. After-school services that offer Computer, English, Taekwondo and Music classes.

  • 72 children graduated from this program, and we started 2020 with a total enrollment of 100 students.

2. Trade School for Adults. Different vocational training programs that include English, Computer, Relaxing Massage Therapy, and Introduction to Excel with Accounting Principles.

  • 40 adults finished the English course
  • 20 adults graduated from the Computer course
  • 12 adults finished the Introduction to Excel course
  • 19 ladies graduated from massage therapy school.

And there's a super exciting update about the ladies who completed massage therapy school...

Education changing lives

Six of the graduates are working at the Spa in El Bosque - at Rancho Santana. The rest of the ladies work sporadically when the high season demands extra staff.

3. High School Classes for adults.
We are committed to extending education opportunities to students from all ages, and this year we supported 25 adults to attend High School classes as part of our collaboration with the local Ministry of Education. The first group is scheduled for graduation in December 2020.

4. University Scholarship Program. We are proud to announce that 16 students are currently attending University through FunLimon Scholarships. 6 more students recently graduated from their respective university careers. Check out a few testimonials from the grateful students supported by our scholarship program:

Maria Teresa Martínez is a 28-year-old from Limon 2 and is one of our most successful students. She graduated Cum Laude, with a Systems Engineering Degree from UHISPAM RIVAS University. Maria expressed her gratitude to the foundation by saying:

"FunLimon is a foundation that ensures personal and educational improvement. The achievements of a lot of people in our community were made possible because of this organization. An organization that helps people in bad situations overcome and fulfill their goals and dreams"

Zahori Lucero Arce Acevedo is a 26-year-old young lady from Virgen Morena. She graduated from UCAN Masaya University, with a degree in Nursing. When asked if she had a message for the foundation, an emotional Zahori had this to say:

"I write all of these words with tears in my eyes because today, I can proudly say that I am a Nurse. Thanks to FunLimon, there is one more professional in my community."

Kelita del Carmen Martínez is a 33-year-old student from Limon 2, right down the road from FunLimon. She graduated with an Accounting Degree from UHISPAM Rivas University.
"My message for FunLimon would be to say thank you! Please keep up with this program that has helped so many professionals whose families lacked the means to pay for post-secondary education".
