Can you guess how many psychologists work in all of Tola?
Most people who travel here don't realize that Nicaragua is quietly facing a public health crisis. The municipality of Tola, for example, has only two licensed Psychologists to serve a population of over 30 thousand people through the public health system. That's why FunLimon recently invited Psychologist Martha Bonilla to lead a seven-part training and workshop for FunLimon's team of educators. Topics covered included self-care and self-identity; mental health first aid; ageism; conflict resolution; and humans rights and values. As educators, it is important that we are constantly expanding our understanding of the unique challenges faced by adults and children in Nicaragua, including the often undiagnosed mental health problems they grapple with.
